Social work is an offer that supports people in shaping their lives and coping with the challenges they face in the course of their lives. It promotes personal and social skills as well as the social environment. It also deals with problems of social disadvantage of individuals and groups in society in theory and practice. The UN and Beethoven city of Bonn offers a wide range of advice, help and support for its citizens.
The dual study program in Social Work provides students with a solid grounding in social work as well as extensive practical experience. Students gain an insight into various fields of social work at the City of Bonn.
During the course, you will study two days a week at the Fliedner University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. On three working days, you will be trained at the City of Bonn in various areas of the participating specialist departments. The close cooperation between the practice location and the university of applied sciences ensures a good two-way transfer of theory and practice.
The theoretical part of the course will take place at the Fliedner University of Applied Sciences. Study places are allocated by the Fliedner University of Applied Sciences.

The practical phases take place in the following fields of work:
- School social work,
- Youth care,
- Open youth work,
- Specialist services for educational and family support (equivalent to ASD in other municipalities),
- Social services of the social welfare office,
- refugee assistance,
- assistance for the homeless,
- Social psychiatric service,
- Care center for adults
The students are accompanied and supported by mentors during the practical components.

- Abitur or unrestricted entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
- Successful application to study at the Fliedner University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf
- Interest in counseling, accompanying and supporting people in various life situations
- Ability to grasp things quickly and willingness/ability to engage with different fields of work and people
- Commitment and a high willingness to learn
- Ability to deal with conflict and work in a team
- Interest and openness
In addition, applicants are expected to have qualities such as resilience, flexibility and the ability to work in a team. Part-time employment is possible during the training period.
Payment:
Based on the remuneration in the fourth year of training under the TVAöD, you will receive a monthly gross training allowance of around 1,400 euros.
You will receive a special annual payment. You can also take advantage of capital-forming benefits. If you pass the final examination at the first attempt, you will also receive a final bonus of 400.00 euros. Your vacation entitlement is 30 days per calendar year. You can take part in a European internship as part of your training.
As the City of Bonn pays the monthly tuition fees of currently 488.00 euros in addition to the training allowance, students are obliged to stay for three years after completing their studies.
