Dual study program for a "Bachelor of Engineering" in surveying
The dual study program is carried out at the City of Bonn's Office for Land Management and Geoinformation. The Office for Land Management and Geoinformation is responsible for all cadastral and surveying matters in the city area, which covers approximately 141 square kilometers. The main tasks of the office are divided into real estate cadastre, surveying and geodata management, land readjustment and property valuation. There is also a close connection to urban land use planning and planning approval.
You will initially begin a three-year apprenticeship with the City of Bonn as a surveying technician. Vocational school lessons take place one or two days a week at the Ulrepforte vocational college in Cologne. Parallel to the subject-related vocational training, from the second year of training onwards, you will start a Bachelor's degree course in "KIA (Cooperative Engineering Education) Surveying" at Bochum University of Applied Sciences.
The course takes place two days a week, and students do not have to attend vocational school in exchange. After completing the vocational training, the course continues with a five-semester full-time in-depth course.
Study structure:
1st to 4th semester: Mathematical, scientific and subject-related basics
5th to 7th semester: Subject-related specialization
5th and 6th semester: Key qualifications
9th semester: Practical phase, final thesis incl. colloquium
The standard period of study is nine semesters.
In addition to the degree course, students gain extensive professional experience in an attractive professional field at the Office for Land Management and Geoinformation.
Training focus:
- Cadastral surveys (surveying of land plots, building surveys)

- Recording and presentation of official geodata in geoinformation systems
The link between theory in the course and practice in the Office for Land Management and Geoinformation continues to exist in the full-time course during the lecture-free period.
At the end of the course, students receive a Bachelor of Engineering degree and complete their vocational training as a surveying technician.
The dual course of study begins on August 1 of each year and lasts five and a half years.
