Practice-integrated training as an educator

Do you want to become a  travel companion?

Do you still think fondly of your Kindergarten, your school? Can you imagine returning there - as an educator? Do you enjoy accompanying children on their journey to adulthood, do you enjoy working in a team, are you creative and willing to take on responsibility? Then a career as an educator is just right for you.

The training takes place at a vocational school for social pedagogy. As you work with people in this profession, the training is practice-integrated. For this reason, you are required to work in a socio-educational institution for at least 18 hours per week. At the City of Bonn, you can complete this practical part of your training in one of the city's daycare centers or in an OGS. The tasks range from helping to organize the daily routine to independent project work in all areas of education and taking part in team meetings.

The aim of the training is to enable you to take on educational, training and care tasks and to acquire the state-recognized professional qualification of educator. Theoretical lessons usually take place several days a week at a vocational school for social pedagogy. Training begins in August or September of each year and lasts three years.

If you have decided to take this path, you should apply to the City of Bonn. A school place is a prerequisite for the apprenticeship. You should therefore obtain a letter of acceptance from a vocational school for social pedagogy in advance and enclose it with your application. The City of Bonn gives preference to applications with such an acceptance letter.
