The training is carried out at the City of Bonn in the road maintenance department of the civil engineering office. As a road builder in training, you will learn how to lay roads, paths and squares. This includes the construction of edging, the substructure of roads and the laying of paving and slabs made of natural or concrete stones. The construction of asphalt surfaces, prefabricated concrete structures and the drainage of traffic areas is also a specialist area that you will approach both practically and theoretically.
The maintenance and renovation of roads and paths is a large part of the road builder's work. During your training, you will get to know various tools, construction equipment and machines and practise using them. Of course, you will also learn what needs to be taken into account when producing and using different building materials.
Vocational school lessons take place in the form of block lessons at the Carl-Reuther-Berufskolleg of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in Hennef. You will also take part in several inter-company training sessions at the Butzweilerhof training center in Cologne.
Training with the City of Bonn begins on August 1 of each year and lasts three years. Under certain conditions (previous education, performance), the training period can be shortened on application.
