Specialization: Wastewater treatment plant operation
Do you want to become a rinser?
Training as an environmental technologist in wastewater management is mainly carried out at the Bonn-Duisdorf wastewater treatment plant. This is organizationally affiliated to the Civil Engineering Office of the City of Bonn. During your training, however, you will also complete practical sections at the Bonn-Beuel, Bad Godesberg and Bonn-Salierweg wastewater treatment plants. In this way, you will get to know as many colleagues as possible and gain a comprehensive insight into the work. You will also complete an internship in indirect discharger monitoring and sewer maintenance.
The tasks of an environmental technologist in wastewater management are varied. In addition to planning, monitoring, controlling, documenting and analyzing all processes that occur in a drainage network, the wastewater technology specialist is responsible for wastewater and sewage sludge treatment at municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. You will also work in a wide range of locations: you will work in modern laboratories, control rooms and control stations as well as outdoors, for example in sewage treatment tanks.
You will be supported by qualified trainers during your training in this profession. However, you should bring a few things with you: Are you particularly interested in environmental protection, natural sciences, technical processes and chemical processes? Then training as an environmental technologist in wastewater management could be just the thing for you! Of course, you shouldn't mind working outdoors. You should also have manual dexterity, be reliable, precise and enjoy working in a team.
Vocational school lessons take the form of block teaching at the Hans-Schwier-Berufskolleg in Gelsenkirchen. You will also take part in inter-company training courses at the BEW (Bildungszentrum für die Entsorgungs- und Wasserwirtschaft GmbH) in Essen.
