Surveying technician

Training as a surveying technician is carried out at the City of Bonn's Office for Land Management and Geoinformation. The office is responsible for all cadastral and surveying matters in the city area, which covers approximately 141 square kilometers. The main tasks of the office are divided into real estate cadastre, surveying and geodata management, land readjustment and property valuation. There is also a close connection to urban land use planning and planning approval.

If you would like to put mathematics and physics into practice and are interested in graphical data processing, then this future-oriented and varied apprenticeship with work in the office and in the field will suit you! Your tasks as a surveying technician will include carrying out position and height surveys in the field and processing and visualizing the data in the office. The focus is on surveying calculations and the computer-aided processing of data into maps and planning documents.

During your training with the City of Bonn, you will become familiar with the various fields of activity of the Office for Land Management and Geoinformation. You will collect data with the help of various measuring instruments and carry out surveying calculations. You will also learn how to use job-related computer programs and geographical information systems and apply legal and administrative regulations.

You will be supported by qualified trainers during your training in this profession. However, there are a few things you should bring with you, such as a good understanding of mathematics and technology, spatial awareness and a keen interest in geography (relating to maps and coordination systems). If you also enjoy working with modern information and computer technology and are not afraid of working outdoors, training as a surveying technician is an interesting option for you. The ability to work in a team and flexibility in surveying work are also qualities you should have.

Vocational school lessons take place one or two days a week at the Ulrepforte vocational college in Cologne.

Training begins on August 1 of each year and lasts three years. Under certain conditions (previous education, performance), the training period can be shortened on application.

After completing your training, you can expect a wide range of tasks in the broad spectrum of specialist areas at the Office for Land Management and Geoinformation, such as

Carry out outdoor surveys:

  • Land surveys and building surveys
  • technical surveys
  • topographical surveys, site surveys
  • Transfer of land surveys and building surveys to the property register
  • Creation of site plans using CAD technology
  • Working with geoinformation systems

Recruitment requirements:

  • Secondary school certificate after completing compulsory full-time schooling

Payment:

Depending on the year of training, you will receive the following monthly gross training allowance:

  1. Year of training: 1,218.26 euros
  2. Year of training: 1,268.20 euros
  3. Year of training: 1,314.02 euros

You will also receive capital-forming benefits and a special annual payment. You will also receive a learning materials allowance of 50.00 euros in each year of training. If you pass the final examination on your first attempt, you will also receive a final bonus of 400.00 euros.

You are entitled to 30 vacation days per calendar year.
