Bonn makes a career.

Medical assistant

The training as a medical assistant is carried out at the public health department of the city of Bonn. The public health department is responsible for medical examinations, drug safety, infection control and environmental hygiene, as well as advice on vaccinations and sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV. It is also the point of contact for people with all kinds of mental health problems and their families (social psychiatric service).

The tasks of medical assistants include looking after and advising patients by telephone and on site. They assist the medical officers and carry out minor examinations independently, such as hearing and eye tests, blood tests and measuring height and weight. Administrative tasks are also part of your work. In this way, you will learn how to document your examinations, prepare reports and letters and carry out organizational tasks (processing incoming and outgoing mail, dealing with correspondence, arranging appointments).

As a trainee in this professional field, you will receive a structured introduction to the various areas of medicine and administration. You will have the opportunity to use your skills for the health of people of all ages and social classes. Mandatory training content that cannot be taught in the public health department is learned in cooperation with a general medical practice. Here you will gain an impression of the processes of a private medical practice, where you will carry out reception work, invoicing, material procurement and laboratory work, among other things.

Vocational school lessons take place two days a week at the Ludwig-Erhard-Berufskolleg in Bonn.
