The training as a city secretary candidate is completed in four practical stages in various offices of the Bonn city administration. As a minimum, you will get to know the areas of personnel and organization, public finance, public order administration and service administration. After completing your training, you will be able to work in almost any office of the City of Bonn. The possible range of tasks is therefore diverse and extends from serving citizens and processing cases to preparing meetings and making transfers, organizing events and maintaining files.
Vocational training usually takes place twice a week at the Rheinisches Studieninstitut für kommunale Verwaltung in Cologne. Here you will be taught in particular the application of laws and the necessary specialist knowledge in various subjects, for example constitutional, municipal and social law, civil law as well as budgetary and treasury law.
Training at the City of Bonn begins on September 1 of each year and lasts two years. It is completed in the form of a preparatory service. Recruitment takes place as a civil servant on revocation and ends with the career examination for career group 1, second entry level.
Recruitment requirements:
- As a rule, maximum age at the time of recruitment of 39 years (§ 14 LBG NRW, here you will also find the exceptions)
- Nationality of a member state of the European Union (§ 7 Para. 1 BeamtStG)
- Advanced technical college entrance qualification or limited advanced technical college entrance qualification (applications with a higher school-leaving qualification can only be accepted for training as a municipal inspector candidate)
Payment:
During your traineeship, you will receive a salary of around 1,400 euros. You will also receive capital-forming benefits.
You are entitled to 30 days of vacation per calendar year.
If your training results are good, you will generally be taken on as a probationary civil servant. Once you have proven yourself during the three-year probationary period, you will be made a permanent civil servant. If you perform very well, it is possible to be promoted to career group 2, first entry level, after a few years.
