Once we have received your application, we will check your documents. If your application meets the requirements for your desired training position, we will invite you to the further selection process.

Please note that we will first test you for the occupation corresponding to your school-leaving qualification (administrative assistant = secondary school leaving certificate, city secretary candidate = advanced technical college entrance qualification or limited advanced technical college entrance qualification, city inspector candidate = Abitur or unrestricted advanced technical college entrance qualification), even if you have applied for one of the other administrative training courses. In this way, we want to ensure that applicants without a high school diploma also have a fair chance to apply for administrative training. We also want to make the most of you and fully exploit your potential. For example:

You have A-levels but are applying to train as an administrative assistant with the City of Bonn. On the basis of your school-leaving certificate, we initially consider you for training as a city inspector candidate. You will take an aptitude test. We will receive an evaluation for the test regarding your suitability for all three administrative professions. If you do not qualify for training as a city inspector candidate based on the result, we will check whether you are better suited to one of our other administrative professions. This will give you the best chance of finding a suitable apprenticeship with the City of Bonn.

If you meet our recruitment requirements and your application documents are complete, you will be given the opportunity to take a recruitment test. Since 2015, we have only been conducting this test online. Shortly after your application, you will receive a link by email that will direct you to a personal test. For this reason, we absolutely need your e-mail address in your application. Please check your spam folder regularly so that you do not miss the invitation to the online test. You have two weeks after receiving the e-mail to take the test.

If your application documents and your test result beat your fellow applicants, we will invite you to an interview. Then we will finally get to know you. Your interview will last about an hour. The following people take part in all interviews at the City of Bonn: an employee of the training management, a representative of the staff council and a representative of the youth and trainee representatives.

After the application deadline, a pre-selection for the selection process is made on the basis of the application documents (depending on the number of applications received). The selection is of course based on legal provisions (General Equal Treatment Act) and is carried out using objective criteria that are relevant to the respective training occupation. The selection procedures are supervised by the trainers of the respective occupation and/or by the employees of the training department.

In most training occupations, an aptitude test is carried out for the occupation. This is often supplemented by a dictation test and, depending on the occupation, a practical aptitude test. This is followed by an interview (depending on the result of your test).

In addition to the trainers and a member of the training management, a representative of the staff council and/or the youth and trainee representatives as well as the Equal Opportunities Office will also take part in your interview. Sometimes a trial working day is added to the selection process before a final decision is made for applicants.
