The selection process for all fire department training professions consists of
- the intellectual part, turntable ladder climbing and personal rescue
- the sports test (or, in the case of career group 2, 1st and 2nd entry level, the parts of the sports test listed below) and
- the interview.
Intellectual part, turntable ladder climbing and personal rescue
Intellectual part
For career group 2, 1st and 2nd entry level, the intellectual part may consist of various components of the assessment center (e.g. statement, presentation, group work).
Intellectual test for career group 1, 2nd entry level:
- Retelling after an approx. 10-minute oral presentation
Processing time: 30 minutes
The following will be assessed:
1. content
2. spelling
3. linguistic presentation - Arithmetic/math test with tasks from the area of basic arithmetic operations
Processing time: 30 minutes (calculators are not permitted) - General knowledge test
Processing time: 15 minutes - Logical-analytical test
Processing time: 15 minutes
Turntable ladder climbing
The turntable ladder climb is used to test the occupational ability to work at heights. The test person climbs an aerial ladder (30 m long, angle of inclination approx. 75°). The exercise is passed if the turntable ladder is climbed within 60 seconds.
There is one scoring round.
Rescue of persons (pull dummy)
Test setup
A distance of 11 m is marked out between two pylons and a start/finish line is marked on one pylon with a hall line or masking tape.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The dummy lies with its head in front of the start/finish line in the direction of the pull.
The test person grasps the dummy by the shoulder straps so that the dummy's upper body is lifted off the ground.
With the dummy raised, the test person assumes a ready-to-run starting position at the start line with their back to the running track.
Execution:
After the start signal, the test person begins to pull the dummy backwards across the floor as quickly as possible, but in a controlled manner. A change of grip on the dummy's shoulder strap is permitted.
The pylons signal the respective turn marker for the test person to pull the dummy around.
The dummy is pulled around the pylons for a total of three laps. The direction of movement always remains backwards.
The test person does not carry out a trial run and one scoring run.
Minimum requirement
The exercise must be completed in a maximum of 60 seconds.
There is one scoring run.
Sports test for career group 1, 2nd entry level, and emergency paramedic
Balancing
Test setup
A box is placed at one end of the balance beam as a climbing aid. An obstacle in the form of a medicine ball is positioned in the middle of the balance beam. A sandbag is placed at the other end of the balance beam as an additional load. A turning area of 20 cm should be marked at each end of the balance beam.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person stands barefoot (to standardize the test condition) in front of the box as a climbing aid.
Execution
At a start signal, the test person climbs the balance beam over the box at a controlled pace. The test person balances over the beam and picks up the sandbag with one hand at the end of the beam, crosses the turning mark, makes a half turn and transports the additional load in one hand to the start of the beam. Within this turning mark, the test person turns around again, shifts the additional load to the other hand and transports it back. At the end of the bar, the sandbag is placed in the turning mark. After a final half turn, the test person balances back and descends over the box in a controlled manner. While balancing, the subject steps over the medicine ball in the middle of the bar (no lateral movement of the legs). The test person does not perform a trial run and one scoring run.
Minimum requirement
The exercise must be completed in a maximum of 50 seconds.
If the minimum requirement is not met, a repeat run can be performed.
Push-ups
Test setup
The test is carried out on a clean hall floor that provides firm support for the feet or on a thin exercise mat.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test subject assumes a push-up position with arms outstretched. The hands are placed on the floor at shoulder joint level. The posture is stretched with the legs closed.
Execution:
On command, the subject bends the arms until the elbow angle is 90° (duration 2 sec.).
On command, the test person stretches the arms until the elbow angle is 180° (duration 2 sec.).
The test is completed after 16 valid repetitions.
Minimum requirement
At least 12 push-ups must be completed.
If the minimum requirement is not met, one repetition can be performed.
After 16 valid repetitions, the test ends with the maximum number of points.
Alternating jumps
Test setup
The alternating jumps are performed over a pole on a clean, non-slip hall floor. The pole is fixed at a height of 33 cm, e.g. on two pylons.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person stands ready to jump off to the side of the pole with their legs hip-width apart.
Execution:
After the start command, the test person jumps back and forth sideways over the pole with both legs at the same time. The test person repeats this without interruption and if possible without intermediate jumps until the test leader ends the test after 30 seconds. The test person performs two test jumps. After a short break, there is a scoring run with a start signal.
Minimum requirement
At least 42 alternating jumps must be completed during the exercise.
If the minimum requirement is not met, a repeat round can be performed.
After 54 valid repetitions in 30 seconds, the test ends with the maximum number of points.
Bending slope
Test setup
The test is performed on a pull-up bar or an attached horizontal bar. A climbing aid (e.g. box) is provided so that the test person can assume the bent arm position directly as the starting position for the test without a free-hanging pull-up movement. To avoid injuries, a gymnastics mat should be placed underneath the pull-up bar.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person grips the pull-up bar shoulder-width apart in a comb grip. Then assume the starting position with bent arms so that the chin can be held above the pull-up bar. It must be possible to assume the starting position directly with an ascent aid without a free-hanging pull-up movement.
Execution:
The time measurement begins as soon as the test person has reached the bent-over hang position.
The test person does not perform a trial run and a scoring run.
Magnesia can be used as an aid. The pull-up bar should be dried between tests if necessary. The test is aborted after 60 seconds of a valid holding position.
Minimum requirement
The bend hang must be held for at least 45 seconds.
If the minimum requirement is not met, a repetition can be performed.
After 60 sec. holding time, the test is ended with the maximum number of points.
Lateral medicine ball throw
Test setup
A 20 m long and approx. 4 m wide throwing area is set up for the lateral medicine ball throw. The throwing area should be aligned at the edge of the hall towards a hall wall. A throwing line (hall line or masking tape) is marked at the end of the throwing area away from the hall wall. A measuring tape is laid out and fixed at right angles to the drop line from the zero point to the other end of the throwing area in the direction of the hall wall. To make it easier to determine the distance, the measuring tape can also be attached and labeled every half meter with a strip of masking tape.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person stands to the side of the drop line and grasps the medicine ball with both hands. They assume a clear knee bend position (100-120° inner knee angle). They rotate their upper body in an extended position slightly in the opposite direction to the direction of the throw so that the medicine ball can be held with the arms stretched out to the side next to the knee.
Execution:
From a coordinated leg extension, trunk rotation and sideways throwing motion, the medicine ball is thrown as far forward as possible.
The test person performs one test attempt on each side. After a short break, a scoring run is performed on each side, starting with the right.
In the event of incorrect execution or if the required 5.50 m is not achieved, a second evaluation round can be carried out after corrective instructions.
Minimum requirement
A minimum distance of 7.50 m must be achieved on each side.
If the minimum requirement is not met, a second round can be performed.
Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity (CKCU) test
Test setup
The test is carried out on a clean hall floor that provides firm support for the feet or on a thin gym mat. Two markings are placed 90 cm apart (hall lines or masking tape).
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person assumes a push-up position in front with arms outstretched. The hands are placed on the inside of the markings (90 cm) on the floor at shoulder joint level. The posture is stretched with legs closed.
Execution:
On a start signal, the test person reaches as quickly as possible alternately with the fingertips sideways over the markers, with the supporting hand placed next to the respective marker. The body posture remains stretched with legs closed. A hollow back posture or lifting the pelvis should be avoided.
The test person performs two lateral overpasses as a test and, after a short break, a scoring run with a start signal.
The test leader gives the start signal "Start" and interrupts the test after 15 seconds ("Stop").
A second scoring round can take place after a 1-minute break for those who have not completed 17 valid repetitions.
Minimum requirement
At least 23 attacks must be performed in 15 seconds.
If the minimum requirement is not met, a repeat round may be performed.
After 29 valid repetitions in 15 seconds, the test ends with the maximum number of points.
Box boomerang test
Test setup
A gymnastics mat (6 o'clock) and three box sections (9, 12, 3 o'clock) are arranged in a square at a distance of 2 m from the medicine ball in the middle.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person stands in a stepping position in front of the edge of the mat, which acts as the start/finish line.
Execution:
After the start signal, the test person begins the course with a forward roll over the mat.
The test person runs to box section 1 by running around the medicine ball on the right. They jump over box 1 and crawl through it in the direction of the medicine ball. The test person then runs around the medicine ball on the right on the way to box sections 2 + 3, which they also jump over and crawl through. After box section 3, the test person runs around the medicine ball on the right again and runs over the mat to behind the start/finish line.
The test person does not perform a trial run and performs a scoring run.
The test leader gives the start command "Start" and stops the time by hand at the start/finish line, monitoring the correct running route through the course.
Minimum requirement
The exercise must be completed in a maximum of 19 seconds.
If the minimum requirement is not met, a repeat run can be made.
3000 m run
Test setup
The 3000 m run is run on a 400 m tartan or cinder track or alternatively on a 3000 m running track at ground level. The start is 200 m before the usual start/finish line of the running track. The start and finish lines are clearly marked.
Performing the test
Starting position:
The test person stands at the start line in the high start position.
Execution:
The test person runs the distance of 3000 m (7.5 stadium laps) as quickly as possible.
The test person does not carry out a trial run and a scoring run.
Minimum requirement
The exercise must be completed in a maximum of 15 minutes.
There is one scoring run.
200 m swimming
Test setup
The 200 m swim is carried out in a 25 or 50 m swimming pool. One edge of the pool is designated as the start and finish line. The test subjects are each assigned to a swimming lane.
Test procedure
Starting position:
The test person stands at the edge of the pool in their assigned swimming lane.
Execution:
The test person swims a distance of 200 m as quickly as possible after diving off the edge of the pool.
The test person is free to choose the swimming style and can also
change during the exercise (freestyle).
Minimum requirement
The exercise must be completed in a maximum of 4 minutes.
There is one scoring run.
The sports test for career group 2, 1st and 2nd entry level, consists of
- balance beam
- push-ups
- box boomerang test and
- 3000 m run
The exact requirements can be found in the detailed description of the sports test for career group 1, 2nd entry level and emergency paramedics (see above)
