Bonn makes a career.

Food inspector

The profession of "food inspector" is not a "training profession" in the traditional sense. Rather, it is a further training course. It is carried out in the "Food Monitoring and Veterinary Services" department of the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery. The training lasts 24 months and is divided into six months of theoretical instruction at the Academy for Public Health in Düsseldorf and 18 months of practical training at the City of Bonn's Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery. Stations are the health department of the city of Bonn, the Bonn police, the Rhineland Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Office (CVUA) in Hürth and the CVUA Rhein-Ruhr-Wupper in Krefeld.

Food inspectors monitor businesses in the city of Bonn that work with food, consumer goods, tobacco products or cosmetic products to protect consumers. The spectrum ranges from restaurants, butchers and supermarkets to canteen kitchens for communal catering and manufacturing companies. The day-to-day work is therefore very varied.

You work in a team of scientific experts, food inspectors and administrative staff. Your tasks will include inspecting businesses as well as taking samples and investigating consumer complaints. A friendly and confident manner is just as important as enjoying working with people. You should also have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You should also be prepared to work outside normal working hours.

  • A master craftsman's certificate in a profession in the food trade or a degree in a subject area that imparts knowledge and skills in the field of food or food technology
  • Class B driving license

Payment:

Remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service (TvöD) during training in pay group 5.
